Magic, as I understand it, is energy directed toward an outcome, what Aleister Crowley calls the science and art of causing change to occur in conformity with WILL”. In this podcast, I will interview three different poets interested in and writing from and through this science and art in which real change is manifested through intentional poetic language. Each of these writers unfold different elements of the magical poetics experience, many of which can intersect to form general theories of what makes the “magic” in poetry.
In this selection from the three episode podcast “An Introduction to Magical Poetics”, host Eric Shoemaker and poet Julia Gordon Bramer discuss the nature of Sylvia Plath’s occult poetics.
